Ashgabat in Turkmenistan, an inland state in Central Asia, is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Attractions such as the Gate of Hell (a burning crater on collapsed gas field that has been burning continuously for almost 40 years) and the Karakum Desert can be admired here. Besides, the Arc of Neutrality is located there. However, the trip to Turkmenistan must be fully planned, because the visa for tourists is only valid for five days.

One of the many expensive Asian metropolises in this list is Hong Kong. This large cosmopolitan city has over seven million inhabitants. Hong Kong is known for its modern shopping centers, as well as old villages, an incredible skyline at night and various restaurants.

This Southeast Asian city has a lot to offer. One absolute sight to see is the Marina Bay Sands, which was only built in 2010. This 191 meter building with 55 floors not only contains a mall, there is also a casino, nightclubs, a hotel and so much more. What makes the metropolis so expensive are the general needs of housing but also food from abroad and general leisure activities.
